Kraftwerk
Here they developed the audiovisual concept and composed the music for all the Kraftwerk albums. The cover of the first album showed an image of a traffic cone, which was a trademark of this initial phase of the group, integrating the influence of the industrial environment in which they lived. The album was recorded and mixed later in the year with two different drummers in a few night sessions. The music was dynamic and very intense. The album “Kraftwerk 2” the duo and released in 1971, reflecting more the harmonic and athmospheric side of their music. In later years this musical style was called “Ambient Music”. For the first time Ralf integrated his electronic drum-machine to his keyboard patterns and Florian’s repetitive melodic lines, creating the meditative Klingklang Sound. For the co-production of these two albums, Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider relied on the collaboration of the engineer Konrad Plank . During the years 1970/1971/1972 Kraftwerk continued their live activities all over Germany, cooperating with many different musicians and artists. In february 1973 the duo Ralf and Florian played their first shows outside of Germany in Paris, France. The audio-visual concept included coloured neonlights and the famous neonsigns with their names and slide projections by Emil Schult .

Lene Lovich
Lene Lovich (born 30 March 1949) is an American singer based in England, who first gained attention as part of the New Wave music scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Her most popular hit single was “Lucky Number”, first released in 1979. In 1989, after an absence of several years due to raising a family, she recorded the album March. It was only moderately successful and was not released until nearly a year after the album’s single “Wonderland” had been issued and had become an American dance hit. Lovich continues to perform in much the same style she did back in the 1970s and 1980s, with Chappell still at her side. In 2005 she appeared on Hawkwind’s Take Me to Your Leader CD, as well as appearing occasionally on stage with them. Lovich’s first album since March, entitled Shadows and Dust received a limited release on the Stereo Society label on 13 September 2005. She played for the first time in many years with a full band at the Drop Dead Festival in 2006.

Joy Division ( 1976 )
Joy Division were an English rock band formed in 1976 in Salford, Greater Manchester. Originally named Warsaw, the band primarily consisted of Ian Curtis (vocals and occasional guitar), Bernard Sumner (guitar and keyboards),[1] Peter Hook (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Stephen Morris (drums and percussion).
Joy Division rapidly evolved from their initial punk rock influences, to develop a sound and style that pioneered the post-punk movement of the late 1970s. According to music critic Jon Savage, the band “were not punk but were directly inspired by its energy”. Their self-released 1978 debut EP, An Ideal for Living, caught the attention of the Manchester television personality Tony Wilson. Joy Division’s debut album, Unknown Pleasures, was released in 1979 on Wilson’s independent record label Factory Records, and drew critical acclaim from the British press. Despite the band’s growing success, vocalist Ian Curtis was beset with depression and personal difficulties, including a dissolving marriage and his diagnosis with epilepsy. Curtis found it increasingly difficult to perform at live concerts, and often had seizures during performances.
In May 1980, on the eve of the band’s first American tour, Curtis, overwhelmed with depression, committed suicide. Joy Division’s posthumously released second album, Closer (1980), and the single “Love Will Tear Us Apart” became the band’s highest charting releases. After the death of Curtis, the remaining members reformed as New Order, achieving critical and commercial success.

Laibach ( 1980 )
Laibach is a Slovenian avant-garde music group, strongly associated with industrial, martial, and neo-classical musical styles. Laibach formed June 1, 1980 in Trbovlje, Slovenia (then Yugoslavia). Laibach represents the music wing of the Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK) art collective, of which it was a founding member in 1984. The name “Laibach” is the German name for Slovenia’s capital city, Ljubljana. Some early Laibach albums were pure industrial, with hard industrial percussions, heavy rhythms, and roaring vocals. Later in the mid-80s, the Laibach sound became more richly layered with samples from classical music including from Gustav Holst’s The Planets. The band began their tradition of cover songs in 1987 with the album Opus Dei, where their sound was changed again. Some early material by Laibach and later neoclassical releases by the band — such as 1990’s Macbeth release — were influential on certain artists within the martial music genre.

Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds was originally formed in late 1983 by two former members of the Australian band The Birthday Party: Nick Cave (vocals, songwriter, keyboards, harmonica) and Mick Harvey (drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, occasional songwriter). The name of the new project indicated the shift in Cave’s role from lead singer, as in The Birthday Party, to band leader, and coincided with his shift in songwriting style from expressionism to detailed lyrical narrative. In 1990, the band collectively eliminated hard drugs from its diet[citation needed], relocated to Brazil, and released The Good Son, Powers’ final collaboration with the band. Their next record, 1992’s Henry’s Dream, was the first to feature current members Martyn Casey and Conway Savage. Following it came 1994’s Let Love In. In 1996, Cave and the Bad Seeds released Murder Ballads. It includes “Henry Lee,” a duet with British rock singer PJ Harvey (with whom Cave had a brief relationship), and “Where the Wild Roses Grow,” a duet with Australian pop idol Kylie Minogue. The latter was a mainstream hit in the UK and in Australia, winning three ARIA Awards including “Song of the Year.” Australian violinist Warren Ellis began working with the band at this time, and would play an increasingly significant creative role in the band’s output in coming years. American drummer Jim Sclavunos also joined the group. Their next album, The Boatman’s Call (1997), is marked by a radical shift away from archetypal and violent narratives to biographical and confessional songs about his relationships with Carneiro and Harvey. Cave then took a short break to rehabilitate from his 20 years of heroin and alcohol abuse, during which time he got married. Following Cave’s rehab, the band resurfaced with No More Shall We Part in 2001. After the release of the 2003 album Nocturama, which failed to excite reviewers, Bargeld announced he was leaving the Bad Seeds after 20 years with the group to devote more time to Einstürzende Neubauten.

Rock City Morgue (2002)
Rock City Morgue formed in New Orleans in 2002. Founding members Rik Slave (of Man Scouts of America) and Sean Yseult (of White Zombie) moved from the South to spend their formative years in New York City’s Lower East Side, where their undying love for underground music bonded their friendship. After both spnet time in different bands, they later found each other in New Orleans – where they met Johnny Brashear, guitarist, and drummer Keith Hajjar, to form the group. Their self released e.p., Some Ghouls is produced by Daniel Rey (of Ramones fame), and engineered by grammy award-winning Trina Schumaker.

Misfits ( 1977 )
The Misfits are an American rock band often recognized as the progenitors of the horror punk subgenre, blending punk rock and other musical influences with horror film themes and imagery. Founded in 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey by singer and songwriter Glenn Danzig, the group had a fluctuating lineup during its first six years with Danzig and bassist Jerry Only as the only consistent members. During this time they released several EPs and singles and, with Only’s brother Doyle as guitarist, the albums Walk Among Us (1982) and Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood (1983), both considered touchstones of the early-1980s hardcore punk movement. The Misfits disbanded in 1983 and Danzig went on to form Samhain and then Danzig. Several albums of reissued and previously unreleased material were issued after the group’s dissolution, and their music became influential to punk rock, heavy metal, and alternative rock music of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
After a series of legal battles with Danzig, Only and Doyle regained the rights to record and perform as the Misfits. They formed a new version of the band in 1995 with singer Michale Graves and drummer Dr. Chud. This incarnation of the Misfits had a sound much more rooted in heavy metal and released the albums American Psycho (1997) and Famous Monsters (1999) before dissolving in 2000. Only then took over lead vocals and recruited former Black Flag guitarist Dez Cadena and former Ramones drummer Marky Ramone for a Misfits 25th Anniversary tour. This lineup released an album of cover songs entitled Project 1950 and toured for several years. In 2005 Ramone was replaced by Robo, who had played with Black Flag in the early 1980s and had also previously been the Misfits’ drummer from 1982 to 1983. The current lineup of Only, Cadena, and Robo continues to tour and has announced plans to record an album of new material.

The Tiger Lillies ( 1989 )
The Tiger Lillies are a three-piece band, formed in 1989 and based in London. They have toured worldwide and won acclaim with their opera Shockheaded Peter. Their surreal style has been described as dark, darkly humorous, strangely humorous, Brechtian, and gypsy cabaret. They are also notorious for singing controversial songs involving bestiality, prostitution and blasphemy. In 1999 their work was featured in the film Plunkett & Macleane. The Tiger Lillies were nominated for a Grammy award for their 2003 album The Gorey End, which was a collaboration of sorts with the writer and illustrator Edward Gorey and the Kronos Quartet. Their newest show, 7 Deadly Sins, started on 7 April 2008 at the New Players Theatre in London. The show is based on the traditional seven deadly sins in Catholic theology, and an album was due to be released at the same time. They will appear at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn, to perform their 20th anniversary show, “Dark and Deviant,” which will feature songs from their classic catalog. It was recently announced that the band have been chosen by Matt Groening to perform at the edition of the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival he is curating in May 2010 in Minehead, England.

Sex Pistols ( 1975 )
The Sex Pistols are an English punk rock band that formed in London in 1975. They are responsible for initiating the punk movement in the United Kingdom and inspiring many later punk and alternative rock musicians. Although their initial career lasted just two-and-a-half years and produced only four singles and one studio album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols, they are regarded as one of the most influential acts in the history of popular music. The Sex Pistols originally comprised vocalist Johnny Rotten, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock. Matlock was replaced by Sid Vicious in early 1977. Under the management of impresario Malcolm McLaren, the band created controversies which captivated Britain. Their concerts repeatedly faced difficulties with organisers and authorities, and public appearances often ended in mayhem. Their 1977 single “God Save the Queen”, attacking Britons’ social conformity and deference to the crown, precipitated the “last and greatest outbreak of pop-based moral pandemonium”. In January 1978, at the end of a turbulent US tour, Rotten left the band and announced its breakup. Over the next several months, the three other band members recorded songs for McLaren’s film version of the Sex Pistols’ story, The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle. Vicious died of a heroin overdose in February 1979. In 1996, Rotten, Jones, Cook and Matlock reunited for the Filthy Lucre Tour; since 2002, they have staged further reunion shows and tours. On 24 February 2006, the Sex Pistols—the four original members plus Vicious—were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but they refused to attend the ceremony, calling the museum “a piss stain”

Scary Bitches
United Kingdom (1998 – present)
Scary Bitches is a deathrock band formed in UK by Alma Geddon and DEADri Ransiid in 1998.
Theatrical designer Dean Blunkell designed the bizarre costumes that pull their image as ‘Lesbian Vampyres from Outer Space’ into sharp focus, and complement their strange, bizarre, hard hitting, but amusing lyrics about vampyres, werewolfes, strange children, necrophilia & cannibalism that have been described as being in the style of the ‘rocky horror show’ but with a more modern & vindictive sense of humour’.

Sonic Youth
Sonic Youth is an American rock band from New York City, formed in 1981. The current lineup consists of Thurston Moore (vocals and guitar), Kim Gordon (vocals, bass, guitar), Lee Ranaldo (vocals and guitar), Steve Shelley (drums), and Mark Ibold (bass). In their early career, Sonic Youth was associated with the No Wave art and music scene in New York City. Part of the first wave of American noise rock groups, the band carried out their interpretation of the hardcore punk ethos throughout the evolving American underground that focused more on the DIY ethic of the genre rather than its specific sound. As a result, some consider Sonic Youth as pivotal in the rise of the alternative rock movement. The band has experienced success and critical acclaim throughout the last three decades, continuing into the new millennium, including signing to major label DGC in 1990, and headlining the 1995 Lollapalooza festival.Sonic Youth have expressed a wide variety of influences, ranging from the influential protopunk musician Patti Smith to composer John Cage. The band has been praised for having “redefined what rock guitar could do”, using a wide variety of unorthodox guitar tunings, and preparing guitars with objects like drumsticks and screwdrivers to alter the instruments’ timbre.

The Dance Society
The forerunners of The Danse Society can be found in 1979 when Steve Rawlings (voice), Paul Gilmartin (drums), Paul Hampshire (known as Bee) (keyboards), Dave Patrick (lead guitar) and Bubble (bass) formed a band simply called Y? which had the track ‘End of Act One’ included in the compilation ‘Bouquet of Steel’ released in early 1980. By 1979 Lyndon Scarfe and Paul Nash had a band called Lips-X, the mutual ideas with the people of Y? lead to the joining of both bands by June 1970 to form the real forerunner of The Danse Society, a band called Danse Crazy. This band played at the Futurama Two Festival (popular name for “The World’s Second Science Fiction Music Festival”) held at Queen’s Hall, Leeds in september 1979. Other groups playing at that festival were: Joy Division, Cabaret Voltaire, A Certain Ratio, OMD , Public Image Limited, Soft Cell among others. The complete festival was filmed by the BBC and in november ot 1981 was aired. Danse Crazy were shown playing ‘Sink’, although they were listed as The Danse Society. A few days before they played at Futurama, the band was in studio and recorded two tracks ‘There is no shame in death’ and ‘Dolphins’, shelving them for a future release. The Danse Society was formed in January of 1981 when Bee left Danse Crazy. He was later involved in other bands such as Panache, Getting the fear and Into a circle. Patrick also left. The four remaining members went on with the band bu by March 1981 they changed the name to The Danse Society. The first line-up were Steve Rawlings (voice), Paul Nash (guitar), Lyndon Scarfe (keyboards), Tim Wright (bass) and Paul Gilmartin (drums).

Nina Hagen
Born as Catharina Hagen to Hans Hagen (also known as Hans Oliva), a scriptwriter, and Eva-Maria Hagen, an actress and singer, her paternal Jewish grandparents died in Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Her parents divorced when she was two years old, and growing up she saw her father infrequently. At age four, she began to study ballet, and was considered an opera prodigy by the time she was nine. When Hagen was 11, her mother married Wolf Biermann, an anti-establishment singer-songwriter. Biermann’s political views influenced young Hagen: she was “dishonourably discharged” from the Free German Youth group at age twelve, and became active in political protests against the East German government.Hagen left school at age sixteen, and joined the cover band Fritzens Dampferband (Fritzen’s Steamboat Band, together with Achim Mentzel and others). She added songs by Janis Joplin and Tina Turner to the “allowable” set lists during shows. From 1972-73, Hagen enrolled in the crash-course performance program at The Central Studio for Light Music in East Berlin. Upon graduation, formed the band Automobil.

Christian Death
Christian Death is an American deathrock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1979. The band was fronted and founded by Rozz Williams and featured guitarist Rikk Agnew. Christian Death is most notable for their album Only Theatre of Pain, which was a major event in the birth of the Goth and Deathrock subculture within the United States and beyond. After many line up changes, at one point during the 1990s there were two bands with the name Christian Death. One featured Williams, and the other featured Valor Kand.Kand has been the lead guitarist since the second album “Catastrophe Ballet”, and later became lead vocalist as well.Rozz Williams founded Christian Death in October 1979, at the age of 16, with bassist James McGearty, drummer George Belanger and guitarist Jay (John Albert). The first Christian Death performance in front of a live audience was at a Castration Squad gig in 1980, when Castration Squad invited Christian Death on stage to play a couple songs. In 1980 and 1981, the band played many shows with 45 Grave, another L.A. deathrock group, though they also played shows with punk bands like Social Distortion and The Adolescents.

Siouxsie Sioux
Siouxsie Sioux (born Susan Janet Ballion on 27 May 1957 in London), is an English singer-songwriter, better known for her work as the lead singer of Siouxsie and the Banshees and of its splinter group The Creatures. She has also sung with artists such as Morrisseyand John Cale.In 2004, she began a solo career.Siouxsie is considered to be “one of the most influential British singers of the rock era”. Her music has influenced a variety of artists including LCD Soundsystem, Tricky,Jeff Buckley Massive Attack, and TV on the Radio.Sioux was born at Guy’s Hospital in Southwark, Southeast London, England, the youngest of three children. She attended Mottingham Secondary Modern School for Girls in Kent. Her mother was a bilingual secretary, her father a laboratory technician who milked serum from venomous snakes in the Belgian Congo. Her father died of complications from alcoholism when Sioux was 14; shortly afterward, she survived a life-threatening bout of ulcerative colitis, which she later said “completely demystified the body for me.”During her teens, she was a self-confessed loner, was into the music of David Bowie, Lou Reed, Roxy Music, T.Rex, The Velvet Underground and The Stooges, and started visiting the local gay discos. She became well known in the London punk scene for her glam, fetish and bondage attire, which became staples of punk fashion. In the mid-1970s, journalist Caroline Coon coined the term “Bromley Contingent” to talk about a group of eccentric teenagers devoted to the Sex Pistols. Siouxsie was a member of the Contingent, along with fellow Banshees founder Steven Severin.Sioux’s first gig was with her group Suzie and the Banshees, as an unrehearsed fill-in at the 100 Club Punk FestivalMalcolm McLaren in September 1976. The group did not know or play any songs; they improvised as Sioux recited poems and prayers she had memorized. The same month, the Bromley Contingent followed the Sex Pistols to France, where Sioux was beaten up by someone for wearing a black armband with a swastika on it. She claimed her intent was to shock the bourgeoisie, not to make a political statement. To stop controversy, she later wrote the songs “Metal Postcard (Mittageisen)” (to the memory of the anti-Nazi artist John Heartfield) and the single “Israel”.One of Sioux’s first public appearances was with the Sex Pistols on Bill Grundy’s television show in December 1976. In the course of Grundy’s interview with the members of the Sex Pistols, the presenter tried to flirt with her. In reaction, Pistols guitarist Steve Jones called him a “dirty bastard”, which created a media furore that had a major impact on the Pistols’ subsequent career.

Ghouls Night Out
If the Misfits “spent the night” with The Trashwomen, you’d get Ghouls Night Out! Myra (of Gein and the Graverobbers) pulls double duty: playing her Fender Cyclone drenched with reverb and heading up vocals. All this is backed up by a thundering rhythm section thanks to Lily and Vampie (drums and bass respectively). Ghouls Night Out combines the trashy garage sound of the ‘60s with the horror punk sensibility of The Misfits…all in all a necrophiliac’s dream band!
Their debut E.P., The Mourning After, shows that these ghastly gals can unleash a unique brand of creepy-yet-rockin’ sound that is sure to leave you begging for more. Tortured souls cry out requests for “Demons are a Ghouls Best Friend” and “Bully” at their shows. But these ladies prove they are not one trick ponies when they pelt you with creepy cuteness with songs like “The Rage!” Dressed in their signature goth-a-go-go micro-minis when they hit the stage, these sinister sisters never fail to get their audiences going with their rockin’ riffs and sing along hooks!

Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath are an English rock band, formed in Birmingham in 1968 by Ozzy Osbourne (lead vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (electric bass), and Bill Ward (drums and percussion). The band has since experienced multiple lineup changes, with Tony Iommi the only constant presence in the band through the years. A total of twenty-two musicians have at one time been members of Black Sabbath. Originally formed as a heavy blues-rock band named Earth, the band began incorporating occult- and horror-inspired lyrics with tuned-down guitars, changing their name to Black Sabbath and achieving multiple platinum records in the 1970s. Despite an association with occult and horror themes, Black Sabbath also composed songs dealing with social and political issues such as drugs and war.As one of the first and most influential heavy metal bands of all time, Black Sabbath helped define the genre with releases such as quadruple-platinum Paranoid, released in 1970.They were ranked by MTV as the “Greatest Metal Band” of all time, and placed second in VH1’s “100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock” list, behind Led Zeppelin. They have sold over 15 million records in the United States alone. Rolling Stone has posited the band as ‘the heavy-metal kings of the ’70s’.Vocalist Ozzy Osbourne’s drinking led to his firing from the band in 1979. He was replaced by former Rainbow vocalist Ronnie James Dio. After a few albums with Dio’s vocals and his songwriting collaborations, Black Sabbath endured a revolving lineup in the 1980s and 1990s that included vocalists Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes, Ray Gillen and Tony Martin. In 1992, Iommi and Butler rejoined Dio and drummer Vinny Appice to record Dehumanizer. The original lineup reunited with Osbourne in 1997 and released a live album, Reunion. The early/mid 1980s line-up featuring Iommi, Butler, Dio, and Appice reformed in 2006 under the title, Heaven & Hell, until Dio’s death on May 16, 2010.

The Rhythm Coffin
The style of music The Rhythm Coffin plays can best be described as “Monster Rock-n-Roll“. While using bits and pieces from many influences, the Coffin mainly derives its sound from “old-skull ghoul-time-Rock-n-Roll” with an echo of classic rock mixed in. Lyrically their songs range from instructional dance songs–think cooler, more undead versions of “The Hokey Pokey”–to spooktastic stories of life as a ghoul, and experiences from Monsterville. If you’re a fan of Alice Cooper, KISS, or The Rocky Horror Picture Show, you’re probably already a fan, even if you don’t realize it yet.
The Rhythm Coffin has been affectionately dubbed the B-52s of the Horror Rock scene. Although an unlikely fit, it’s a title they wear with pride. As frontman Gruesome Gereg, himself, puts it, “We want you up and dancing to our songs! We are a fun band, that is serious about having a ‘ghoul time’!”
Lead vocals are shared by Gruesome Gereg and Eerie Emma with spooktacular back up vocals provided by the Ghoulie Girls–Eerie Emma and her partner in grime, Scarrie Carrie. Ghoul Hectic keeps the undead beat on drums, Rotting Roger gives you the thunder from six feet under on his six string bass–each string representing a foot of dirt he dug himself out of to emerge from his grave.” Gruesome Gereg swings the axe, and Haunted Harold on his Hammond Organ keeps the go-go groove going ghoulishly on.
So put on your Bat Suede Boots and get ready to do the “Tombstone Twist”, the “Haunted Hop” and ALL The Rhythm Coffin hits!

James Chance & the Contortions
One of the original punk jazz groups of the New York No Wave scene, the Contortions were led by saxophonist James Chance, aka James White (birth name James Siegfried). The group formed in New York City in 1977 and ended along with the No Wave scene in 1979.
Their first recorded appearance, credited solely as the Contortions, was on the 1978 compilation, No New York. The following year, two albums were issued almost simultaneously on the ZE label, Buy the Contortions (an extreme jazz-punk LP) and Off White (a disco/standards hybrid released under the moniker James White and the Blacks, with one side vocals, the other side instrumentals). The same line-up recorded both records, although no one aside from Chance appears or is credited on the jacket of the Buy album. Following Chance and manager Anya Philips’ acrimonious break with many of the original Contortions, the line-up changed frequently.
Chance was romantically linked with another New York No Wave luminary, Lydia Lunch; in 1979 Lunch appeared on the album Off White as “Stella Rico”). Original Contortions guitarist Pat Place went on to found the group the Bush Tetras. Guitarist Jody Harris formed neo-surf combo the Raybeats with Don Christensen, George Scott III and Pat Irwin. Keyboardist Adele Bertei formed the Bloods. In 1979 George Scott toured with John Cale as documented on the album Sabotage Live. Some of the African-American band members of “the Blacks,” notably Joseph Bowie, later separated from Chance and formed the band Defunkt.

Squishy Squid
Squishy Squid is an electronic-indie-punk band who hails from the great country of Australia. They bring with them, however, no vacation on their new release Bonjour Tristesse. The band’s formula is pretty straight foward upon first listen. Okay, they got the beats thing down, okay this chick (Nancy as it is) is angry. Upon further spins you start to realize that Nancy is more than angry, she’s poetic. Even though the music remains mostly electronic and based around simple power-pop dance beats, and alt. rock riffs, Nany’s lyrics start to change. It becomes obvious that Nancy’s lyrics are written similarly to those of Patti Smith, rather than current power pop champs the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, which is by the way directly where your mind goes. She uses her incredible amount of energy and passion to belt of wails and shouts that few other artists can muster. She is also brutal. She’s not afraid to tell you “Fuck you” to your face and you can sense that. (in fact there are a few of those comments on the album).

The Adicts
The Adicts are an English punk band from Ipswich, Suffolk, England. One of the more popular punk rock bands in the 1980s, they were often in the indie charts at that time. Their song “Viva La Revolution” was featured in the video game Tony Hawk’s Underground. It was also featured in a commercial for the E! channel advertising their reality television show Pop Fiction. It remains one of the band’s most well known songs. The Adicts originated as Afterbirth & The Pinz in late 1975. They soon changed their name to The Adicts and became known for their distinctive Clockwork Orange droog image, which, along with their urgent, uptempo music and light-hearted lyrics, helped set them apart from other punk bands. In the 1980s, they temporarily changed their name to ‘Fun Adicts’ and ‘ADX’, mainly to coincide with children’s TV appearances.Their music has catchy melodies and lyrics, and often features extra instruments and sound clips, such as carousel music in “How Sad”, violin played by Derick Cook in “Joker in the Pack”, and gongs and keyboard percussion by Anthony Boyd in “Chinese Takeaway”.The musicians wear all white, with black boots and black bowler hats. The singer, Keith “Monkey” Warren, wears joker make-up, and his clothes were usually wild, patterned suits (such as checkerboard or polkadot), flared trousers and colorful dress shirts. He also tends to wear a bowler hat and gloves. Along with the look, come stage shows involving items such as streamers, confetti, playing cards, beach balls, joker hats, toy instruments and glitter.

The Exploited
The Exploited are a Scottish punk band from the second wave of UK punk, formed in 1979.They started out as an Oi! band, before transforming into a faster street punk and hardcore punk band, only with a heavy political influence. Formed in Edinburgh by ex-soldier Wattie Buchan, they signed to Secret Records in March 1981 and released their debut EP Army Life. The album Punks Not Dead followed in the same year. Despite many lineup changes, the band continued into the 2000s and has developed a worldwide following. The band formed in 1979 in Edinburgh. One of the first lineups consisted of Big John Duncan on guitar, (Reeba) Alan Martin on drums, Gary McCormack on bass and Terry Buchan on vocals. After a very short time, however, Terry was removed from the band and his youngest brother, Walter ‘Wattie’ Buchan whom then took over. Inspired by the first wave of punk rock (Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned), the quartet created a simple, no-frills sound characterized by speed and aggression. In 1980, the group founded its own independent record label, Exploited Record Company, and immediately released their debut EP Army Life, which was #6 in the independent charts for eight weeks, then was in the top 20 for 18 months. They then released another single, “Barmy Army”, which immediately jumped into the independent charts and remained there for 53 weeks, peaking at #4.In 1981 the band signed to Secret Records and released the single “Dogs of War”, which peaked at #2 in the independent charts and #63 in the national charts. The band then released their first live album, On Stage, recorded during a concert in Edinburgh. Thereafter, the band performed, along with Discharge, Anti-Nowhere League, Anti-Pasti and Chron Gen on a tour called Apocalypse Now.

Trent Reznor & Peter Murphy – 2006 Tour Live Radio Performances
Bauhaus reformed in 1998 for a tour, and once again in 2006 for a tour with Nine Inch Nails. The latter group’s frontman, Trent Reznor, and Murphy were guests on several radio shows together, often performing three to four duets per radio show. Reznor cites Bauhaus as one of his primary musical influences, and had toured with Murphy earlier in both their careers.
Daniel Ash
Daniel Ash (born 31 July 1957, in Northampton, England) is a textural guitarist for Bauhaus, Tones on Tail, Love and Rockets, and solo projects.
After going to concerts in his teenage years, Ash made a decision to be on a stage in some way. He started playing guitar around the age of 15, but confessed to have been very lazy and only learned three chords and nothing more for about three years. He began playing in cover bands, often together with future band mates David J and Kevin Haskins whom he knew since nursery school. His first gig was in the Glasgow Rangers Workman’s Club.Ash had become friends with Peter Murphy in his teenage years. Ash went to art school and Murphy went to work in a printing factory. They met up five years later and Ash suggested forming a band. Rigging up a makeshift rehearsal space, Ash played an Echo 12 – bar blues, while Murphy sang a series of newspaper articles. Four weeks later, they formed Bauhaus and recorded “Bela Lugosi’s Dead”.

Parálisis Permanente
Parálisis Permanente was a Spanish post-punk band from the 1980s, noted for being the precursors of the “dark sound” of the Movida Madrileña.
The band was originally formed by Eduardo Benavente (guitars) and Nacho Canut, formerly from Alaska y los Pegamoides with their siblings Javier Benavente (vocals) and Johnny Canut (drums) around 1981. This formation recorded an EP, later included in their 1995 compilation Singles y Primeras Grabaciones.
After Javier left the band, Eduardo Benavente began to be the lead singer, as well as the guitarist. Their sound started to be more obscure, deferring from the Pegamoides original sound and tending more to the wave of bands as Gabinete Caligari.

Futurisk
FUTURISK was a pioneering electro-punk group that recorded and performed in the pre-midi era of the early ’80’s. They had two vinyl releases that sold out, a legendary live show and some videos, but for a number of reasons by 1984 Futurisk was history. Eventually the main core of Futurisk would be the Kolosine/Hess/Howard line up, but in ’79 when a teenage Jeremy Kolosine won studio time & money in a competition with his drum-machine triggered guitar-synth act called ‘Clark Humphrey & Futurisk’, he decided to form a band around the name to record a more punk release “The Sound of Futurism 1980/Army Now”. It was an ambivalent anti-war anthem, with Jack Howard on drums, Frank Lardino on synth and Kolosine on vocals and guitar synth. Many live shows ensued with the line up adding Jeff Marcus on bass and Vinnie Scrimenti on drums, but in ’81 a rift with the band and Kolosine caused him to part ways with them. They continued for a bit as Radio Berlin(no relation to the Vancouver act)and Kolosine, who had gotten absorbed in a new synth/sequencer continued as Futurisk. He recruited synthesist/recordist Richard Hess who had a myriad collection of Moogs, Oberhieims and KATs,etc. Jack Howard returned on drums and syn-drums and the line up for the “Player Piano EP” was cast. The EP, like the live show, was a strange blend of punk/minimalist/disco influenced electro pop, with drum-machine triggered synths and often frantic real drums all led by Kolosine’s schizophrenic Bowie/Ferry/Foxx adulations (and about 20 seconds of punk-funk guitar). It was recorded by Rich and the band in the rooms of Ron K’s house. The drum sound, gotten in a bathroom, rocks, even today. Reportedly, Futurisk may have been the 1st synth-punk band in the American South…or something, and 1981’s track ‘Push Me Pull You (pt. 2)’ was an early pre-‘Rockit’ excursion into electro-funk.In 2003 LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy gave a complimentary wink to Futurisk by using the track on the delightful Colette 5 DFA Comp CD. In 2007 an unreleased 1982 version of the track “Meteoright” was included on Minimal Wave’s “Found Tapes” vinyl LP. Also OUT NOW! PUNK’S NOT DEAD DVD
Has punk rock changed the world? Well, it changed mine and a lot of other people’s worlds, our world view, our way of thinking and doing and being. It gave us hope that we could be ourselves, that we were not confined. And now the OPs have grown up and have kids and Hot Topic is in the mall selling Clash tee shirts and Target is a sponsor of the Warped tour. But then again, do punks shop at Target? Is being punk conforming? Or is it still dangerous and stepping outside the mainstream.
Punk rock started out as a rebellious, underground, reactionary movement. And now it is that and so much more as bands like Green Day, Rancid, Pennywise and Good Charlotte have hit the main stream. The unheard music is heard everywhere, not only on the radio as popular songs but also as background in commercials. WTF?
In Punk’s Not Dead Susan Dynner explores the evolving face and soul of punk rock which is more than just music but an attitude. Bands might be selling millions of records, but they aren’t selling out–there are just millions of people who want to hear what those bands are playing and feel the message. Twelve year olds are starting punk bands, punks are still organizing and promoting tours in true DIY style. And around the globe from Serbia to Israel, from Uruguay to Iceland, there’s punk rock.Hey, a sweaty club beats a stuffy classroom any day, though as witty clip from the Gilmore Girls points out, many of punks founders have higher degrees that just a GED. Along with interviews with bands, fans, and entrepreneurs, Punk’s Not Dead features hilarious clips from television shows like Phil Donahue (“Watch out for punk rock, it could be dangerous for your children’s health), Quincy and The OC, showing the music and movement’s transition from shocking ot mainstream.
And yet while punk is mainstream, it is fed by the underground river that Norman Mailer once wrote about, a river and unrest of discontent that flows to a sea of change.
Has punk rock changed the world? Yes. And punk is not dead, nor will it ever die.

Swans, DNA, Foetus, Suicide, Flux Information Sciences, James Chance and the Contortions, Sonic Youth, Glenn Branca, Liars, Black Dice etc.
A 2004 documentary about the New York music scene. Especially the short-lived No Wave movement which came into life somewhere along the mid 70s and died in the early-mid 80s. With a comparison to the NY music scene of today (or rather 2002). Which leads to many pretentious rants by the old timers, especially by the oh god so awful Lydia Lunch (also in Teenage Jesus and the Jerks). It’s fine though, we still have Michael Gira (Swans) and Arto Lindsay (DNA) to save the film.

American Hardcore 2006
The history of hardcore punk–the tougher, faster, and more politically minded stepchild of the ’70s punk movement that arose in the ’80s–is examined in exuberant detail in Paul Rachman’s documentary American Hardcore. Rachman’s cameras careen across the landscape of the U.S. to trace the movement’s beginnings in cities like Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and New York, and cherrypicks interviews with the musicians that helped shape its sound and impact, including Henry Rollins and Greg Ginn of Black Flag, H.R. (frontman for the highly influential, all-African American outfit Bad Brains), Ian MacKaye of Minor Threat (and now Fugazi), and many others. Hardcore’s violent reaction against the Reagan administration and the complacent mindset of middle-class America is also detailed in countless performance footage clips and poster-art reproductions, which do much to dismiss the popular opinion of hardcore as nothing more than mindless hooliganism. Some fans may find the omission of certain bands a considerable oversight (San Francisco’s lethally satirical Dead Kennedys are not mentioned only in passing), but for most punk devotees, American Hardcore will be vital and essential viewing.

24 HOURS PARTY PEOPLE 2002
24 Hour Party People is a 2002 British film about Manchester’s popular music community from 1976 to 1992, and specifically about Factory Records. It was written by Frank Cottrell Boyce and directed by Michael Winterbottom. The film was entered into the 2002 Cannes Film Festival.
It begins with the punk rock era, and moves through the 1980s into the “Madchester” scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The main character is Tony Wilson, a news reporter for Granada Television and the head of Factory Records (played by Steve Coogan), and the narrative largely follows his career, while also covering the major Factory artists, especially Joy Division and New Order, A Certain Ratio, The Durutti Column, and the Happy Mondays. The film is a dramatisation based on a combination of real events, rumours, urban legends, and the imaginations of the scriptwriter – as the film makes clear. In one scene featuring Howard Devoto (played by Martin Hancock) having sex with Wilson’s first wife, the real Devoto, an extra in the scene, turns to the camera and says “I definitely don’t remember this happening”. The fourth wall is frequently broken, with Wilson (who also acts as the narrator) frequently commenting on events as they occur directly to camera, at one point declaring that he’s “being postmodern, before it’s fashionable”. The actors are often intercut with real contemporary concert footage, including the Sex Pistols gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall.

Gang Of Four
Gang of Four are an English post-punk group from Leeds. Original personnel were singer Jon King, guitarist Andy Gill, bass guitarist Dave Allen and drummer Hugo Burnham. They were fully active from 1977 to 1984, and then re-emerged twice in the 1990s with King and Gill. In 2004, the original line-up reunited but in 2006 Allen was replaced on bass by Thomas McNeice and Burnham on drums by Mark Heaney in November 2006.They play a stripped-down mix of punk rock, with strong elements of funk music, minimalism and dub reggae and an emphasis on the social and political ills in society. Gang of Four are widely considered as one of the leading bands of the late 1970s/early 1980s post-punk movement. Their later albums (Songs of the Free and Hard) found them softening some of their more jarring qualities, and drifting towards dance-punk and disco. Their debut album, Entertainment!, ranked at Number 490 in Rolling Stone’s The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. David Fricke in Rolling Stone said “Gang of Four are probably the best politically motivated

Anti Troppau Council
“Psychomafia” was an Athenian post punk band with close relations to the bands South Of No North and Ex Humans (check past postings). When the band split in 1984, the singer/guitar player Giannis Drenogiannis and the bassist Tolis Maragos formed the Anti Troppau Council along with the singer Vasilis Tzavaras and the drummer Takis Kanellos. A great number of gigs took place in the Exarchia live clubs “Pigasos” and “Point” but their performance at Kyttaro club on the February of 1985 was the one to be remembered as there was a compilation tape released titled “Live at Kyttaro” in 1985. By the same year, Anti Troppau Council participated in the LP compilation “Outsiders” with two of their songs. Their album titled “A Way Out” was released through “Pegasus Records” (same owners of the above mentioned club) and instantly became an underground “hit”. Their track “I believe” was already the highlight in their gigs (a song paying a tribute to Roky Erickson). The album gives a good idea about the band’s energy as well as their love for the post punk. Last track on side B, a punk cover of the gospel hymn “When the Saints Go Marching In” titled “When the Saints Go”. While the band was about to record a second album, in 1987, they unexpectedly disbanded. The reason is not known but during the same year, Pegasus Records released the compilation “Cicadas” with two more tracks of the band.

Crass
Crass were an English punk band, formed in 1977,which promoted anarchism as a political ideology, way of living, and as a resistance movement. Crass popularized the seminal anarcho-punkpunk subculture, and advocated direct action, animal rights, and environmentalism. The band both utilised and advocated a “Do It Yourself” approach, producing sound collages, graphics, albums and films. Crass also criticized and attempted to subvert the dominant culture with messages promoting feminism, anti-racism, anti-war, and anti-globalization.Crass practiced their “direct action” philosophy by spray-painting stencilled graffiti messages around the London Underground system and on advertising billboards, coordinating squats, and organising political action. The band also expressed its ideals by dressing in black, military surplus-style clothing and using a stage backdrop which amalgamated several “icons of authority” (including the Christian Cross, the swastika and the Union Flag) and an Ouroboros. The band were critical of the punk movement itself, as well as wider youth culture in general. Crass promoted the type of anarcho-pacifism that eventually became more common in the punk music scene (see anarcho-punk). They are also considered part of the art punk genre, due to their use of tape collages, graphics, spoken word releases, poetry and improvisation.

They originally consisted of Rick (vocals), Dan (guitar), Ray (guitar), Roman (bass), and Jose (drums). The band later added Joel (bass – only for the Chet 7″) and Larry LaLonde (joined after Chet). Yes it is the same Larry of the Primus fame. Ray left at some point after the Chet EP was released. Corrupted Morals featured a hardcore style, featuring lyrics about life, society, and (!) Edwin Meese. Their first release was a 7″, called the Chet EP. Rick, Dan, Ray, Joel (substituting for Roman) and Jose recorded it in June of 1987, but wasn’t released until January 1988 on Lookout! Records. It was originally available for only $2.50 postpaid. It was the second Lookout! release. Later, they released on lookout their Cheese It 12″. Cheese It featured Rick, Roman, Jose, Dan, and Larry. They also produced a very limited record, Think About It 7″ on Very Small Records, VS ..1. CM was also on several compilations, check out the discography section. As far as I know, Corrupted Morals broke up sometime in 1990… whenever it was, it was too early.

Koffin Kats are a psychobilly trio from Detroit, Michigan. Fusing the swing of classic rockabilly with the hot-wired energy and ghoulish imagery of Misfits, this band proves that high-octane psychobilly is still alive and kicking in the American midwest.
Koffin Kats were formed in 2003 by lead singer and upright bassist Vic Victor and guitarist/vocalist Tommy Koffin, who had been part of the Motor City punk scene for some time before trying their hands at the doom-struck twang of their punk-rockabilly fusion. The band has had a number of drummers come and go over the years, with Damian Detroit having the longest run (from 2003 to 2005); Katch (aka the ìotherî Goat); and E-Ball Walls, who played with the Kats for a spell in 2003, and rejoined the lineup in 2007. L7
L7 was anAmerican all female punk rock band from Los Angeles, that was active from 1985 to 2000.Due to their sound and image, they are often associated with the grunge movement of the late 1980s and early 1990s.L7 was formed by Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner on shared electric guitar and shared vocals.A year previous, Gardner had performed backing vocals on the Black Flag song “Slip It In”. The punk rock duo were soon joined by Jennifer Finch on bass guitar and Roy Koutsky on drums. Koutsky left shortly after and Demetra Plakas (“Dee” for short) became their permanent drummer. The band’s name derives from a 1950s slang phrase meaning “square”, but is often mistaken for a reference to the sex position, “69”. The slang phrase “L7” can be heard in the Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs song “Wooly Bully” (“Let’s not be L7, come and learn to dance…”), in the Rick James song “Bustin’ Out” (“L7- just a little too damn straight…”), and in the Paul McCartney song “C Moon” (“I could be L7 and I’ll never get to heaven if I fill my head with glue”).In 1991, the band formed Rock for Choice, a Pro-Choice women’s rights group which was supported by other prominent bands of that era, including Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, and Rage Against the Machine.Rock for Choice still exists and organizes concerts today.

The Runaways
The Runaways were an American all-girl teenage rock band that performed in the 1970s. The band is best known for the songs “Cherry Bomb”, “Queens of Noise”, “Rock n Roll”, “Neon Angels (On the Road to Ruin)”, and “Born to Be Bad”. The career of the band was short, lasting from 1975 to 1979.The Runaways were formed in late 1975 by drummer Sandy West and rhythm guitarist Joan Jett. They had introduced themselves (on separate occasions) to producer Kim Fowley stating their ideas to form an all-girl band. Fowley, who was always looking for the next big thing, gave Jett’s phone number to West. The two met on their own to discuss the possibilities. After rehearsing together, the pair contacted Fowley to let him hear the results. Fowley then helped the girls find the other members. Although Fowley would continue to take credit in the press for creating the band and the music, he would later admit, “I didn’t put The Runaways together, I had an idea, they had ideas, we all met, there was combustion and out of five different versions of that group came the five girls who were the ones that people liked”.Starting as a power trio with singer/bassist Micki Steele, The Runaways began the party and club circuit around Los Angeles. In 1975, they added 16-year-old lead guitarist Lita Ford and lead singer Cherie Currie to the lineup. Singer/bassist Micki Steele left the group, later resurfacing in The Bangles. A local bassist named Peggy Foster took over on bass but also left after a month. Finally, Jackie Fox (who had originally auditioned for the lead guitar spot) was added on bass, and the line up was complete.

Eyaculacion Post Mortem
Eyaculacion Post Mortem is described as a mental status of magnetic state on passing thoughts are also victims of this transformation of elements. After the appearance of their first demo “The Oskura Brotherhood” (2001/02), produced by the learned hands of Oskura J. Najera (Producer, Tear Machine / Oskura Ceremony)they give an epic series of creepy gigs with bleeding Sidonia , ignoring the contraindicated medication and accompanied by a distinguished series of sadistic street (Luis-. .. morte-& Kimo “ruthless”), sharing the stage with some large groups such as Das Ich, Clan of Xymox or Sex Gang Children. They decided to go for a second attempt with the appearance of their second CD “From the Dead and Customs” (March 2003). With regard to style, not just one server (humble narrator, poor me), would venture to describe with accuracy a sumptuous hanging tag, given the distant influences that formed the aforementioned project, although it would be wise to mention that the tends will be always surrounded by a dark sinister, irony and unconscious hatred of humanity that seeks happiness in the conformity of politically correct social values. Loaded with the necessary elements of acoustic and electronic instrumentation to the extent estimated necessary as psycho-host of his message, mixing elements characteristic of the EBM, the After-punk or even issues closer to the futuristic music with a base rather similar to the union of film and music, black and white idioms music. Now they are performing the act sound to an audience that enjoys all the din and clamor of wild circus adrenal worm balloons is now the responsibility of the union of J. Oskura Nájera (voice, faked orgasms, FX and Orgasmatron), Luis (… Morte, guitar EPM), Crumb (electric bass filtering and rude, a component of “H”) and Lost-driver (synths, FX D / A, component “H” sound-swimming).

Brattwell left the band in April 2010.By February 2008 KASMs had been booked to play in New York, their wild live shows having caused a buzz across London’s underground scene. Callaghan is usually the sole instigator of the mayhem, admitting to once pouring a cup of boiling coffee on one audience member’s head,[4] as well as participating in many other destructive onstage antics which often cause damage to the band members and their equipment.KASMs signed to independent label Trouble Records in April 2008. Label mates include Crystal Castles and An Experiment On A Bird In The Air Pump; the latter were friends with KASMs before either band was signed.

Darlings’ Cabinet of Sundry Horror
Darlings’ Cabinet of Sundry Horror are a 3 piece from New Jersey. Most songs are carried by their combination of drum & organ/piano. Think church, think the circus, think a cabaret. Their proposed effect is one of thunder & lightening behind an orotund voice, in a narrative that puts a subject against God before a final juxtaposition that more often than not is a rebuke against the character and his human view of love and spiritual insight. This formula of recondite disclosure is both sincere and sardonic. Their lyrics read like a play, or a prayer. Their influences include older folk/rock gothic outfits like the Bad Seeds, the Violent Femmes, the Cramps, and the work of Tom Waits. An accessible, modern categorization of Darlings’ could put them aside acts like the Horrors or the Dresden Dolls.

With their scratchy, atmospheric guitar parts, prominent bass lines, powerfully dramatic vocals, and overall dark sound, they have made a name for themselves in the underground/deathrock community, compared to the likes of Cinema Strange. Unfortunately, Novocaine Mausoleum disbanded in August 2008, yet will always hold a special place in the hearts of their loyal fans.

The Last Days Of Jesus is a Slovak Progressive Goth Rock band. They formed in Bratislava in May 1993 to combine the spirit of old school Batcave and Deathrock with new musical sounds and patterns. The name originates from a headline band member MaryO read in an American newspaper.MaryO formed the band with Vajco on drums and Sulo, an organist. They then collected Feššy and Andrea, an early bass player. During 1994 this line-up recorded their first demotape and played several shows around Slovakia culminating in a support slot for Das Ich and Faith and the Muse. They continued to tour throughout 1995 including Germany with Marquee Moon and Forthcoming Fire and completed another demo tape, gaining considerable interest within the European goth scene. A few lineup changes have occurred since then and apart from bringing in a session bass player for their studio albums their current lineup continues to record and play live. The band has made many (mainly gothic) festival appearances almost every year since their formation including Wave-Gotik-Treffen five times. In 2003 and 2004 they did two mini-tours of the UK which included Beyond the Veil and Dead and Buried. The 7″ EP “Too Late” was the first release in 1980 and was recorded in a small laundry-room with a 4-track TEAC (the EP was reviewed in the German SOUNDS-magazine as “strangely, archaic music, brute sound that seems to be recorded with a purposely damaged 4-track”). After the departure of Thomas Welz at the end of 1980, No More worked as a trio until the end of 1983.In 2006 No More (condensed in the duo Tina Sanudakura and Andy A. I will really like to read more on this from you. I know your expertise on this. I must say we should have an online discussion on this. Writing only comments will close the discussion straight away! And will restrict the benefits from this information.

I am really loving the theme/design of your website. Do you ever run into any browser compatibility problems? A few of my blog visitors have complained about my blog not operating correctly in Explorer but looks great in Chrome. Do you have any recommendations to help fix this problem?
